Instagram analytics reporting
Joined up to everything else.
Instagram reports reach, engagement and follower movement for your business account. Its metric definitions have changed repeatedly, which makes long-run comparisons less reliable than they look.
The connection
What we read from Instagram.
Read-only, via one-click oauth. Nothing is created, edited or published back into your account.
Access requested: Partner access at Analyst level, granted through the connected Facebook Page.
- Reach
- Impressions
- Engagement
- Follower growth
- Post and reel performance
Read it alone and it misleads you
Story data expires, and a gap in collection is permanent
Story metrics are only available through the API for a short window after posting. Miss that window, through a disconnected token or a paused account, and that data is gone for good rather than backfillable. Instagram has also redefined reach, impressions and views more than once, so a year-on-year comparison can be measuring two different things under the same label.
This is not a fault in Instagram and it is not something a connector fixes. It is why a number from one platform should never be read on its own, and why the platforms never agree with each other.
Once it is joined up
Questions you can finally answer.
- Whether Instagram engagement translates into site traffic and revenue, or stops at the platform
- Which formats earn reach, judged consistently rather than on shifting definitions
- How organic Instagram tracks against your paid social spend
- Whether follower growth corresponds to any change in revenue, or none at all
Every one of those needs your CRM connected as well, because Instagram cannot see what closed. That usually means HubSpot, Salesforce or GoHighLevel.
Common questions
Instagram reporting, answered
Do I need a business account?
Yes. Instagram only exposes insights for business and creator accounts through the API, which is a platform rule rather than ours.
Why can I not backfill story data?
Instagram makes story metrics available for a limited period after posting and then stops serving them. Nothing can retrieve them afterwards, which is why a lapsed connection costs you history permanently rather than temporarily.
Does Instagram show revenue?
Not on its own; it has no view of what anyone bought. Revenue appears once Instagram sits alongside your analytics and CRM, where a session that started on Instagram can be followed through to a closed deal.
